Before it became a Republic, India was an idea.

An idea that travelled quietly — through conversations, newspapers, postcards, and prints like this one.
Framed and hung in homes, studied, argued over, and remembered.

Produced in pre-Partition Lahore in the early 1930s, this print documents the accused in the Lahore Conspiracy Case, with their faces and verdicts laid out plainly. Not as distant heroes, but as people — named, seen, and held in public memory.

On Republic Day, we pause with objects like these.
Because the Constitution did not emerge fully formed.
It arrived on the shoulders of courage, dissent, sacrifice — and the long work of imagining freedom before it was written into law.

Hand-carved in wood, this 11.5-inch wide panel once formed part of a kavadi — the arched, bow-like structure carried by devotees of Murugan as an offering of faith.

The kavadi, both burden and blessing, symbolises the weight one carries towards grace — a journey of penance, prayer, and gratitude.

Here, Murugan stands poised with his peacock by his side, framed by temple columns and crowned with patterned arches. The surface bears the marks of time and devotion — a quiet record of hands that once lifted it in rhythm to the drum and chant.

Every groove, every worn edge tells of a moment of surrender and celebration — devotion carved into wood.

Some stories arrive quietly.
This one came home from a family in Madurai — a German Mauthe clock, carefully mounted into a custom wooden box.

The original was a table clock, but someone — perhaps a parent or grandparent — transformed it into a wall clock, adding a portrait of a loved one beneath the dial.

The frame isn’t interchangeable, so this wasn’t decoration — it was devotion.💛

Mauthe, the maker, was a German manufacturer active from the 1840s to the mid-1900s. But this piece is more than a record of time — it’s a record of love, crafted to keep someone close.

Between festivals, the house feels quieter.
And this courtyard — one of our favourite corners — feels alive again.

Through the year, it changes with the seasons: Fierce in the summer, cool underfoot in the winter, and during the rains, there’s always a thin layer of water here — just enough to wade through.

A few weeks ago, it became our backdrop.
For Arita-ware and Yixing clay, for blues and whites, for stories shaped by hand and fired in distant kilns.

As we begin this festive season, we want to pause and thank you—for every bit of trust, affection, and kindness you’ve shown us.

Many people were sceptical. They told us no one would want old, fragile, secondhand dolls. But we believed these pieces still had stories to tell.

Over the last two years, we’ve travelled across four states and more than two dozen districts, bringing them home in fragile condition. We spent countless hours cleaning, cataloguing, and handling each piece with care. It wasn’t easy—there were breakages, frustrations, and long nights of patient work.

And yes, there were shipping hiccups along the way. Through it all, your patience and generosity reminded us why this work matters.

This is probably the first time anyone has brought together such a large collection of vintage & antique Golu dolls. We didn’t know how people would respond. But your messages, your excitement, and the way these dolls are finding their way back into homes again—it means the world to us.

Restoration at Cherish (First Attempt)

This Navaratri season, we tried something new. With the guidance of an experienced artist, we experimented with restoring a few old dolls.

Many of these dolls had been broken, or patched with household paints. We’ve done our best to bring them back to life — sometimes carefully following the original traces, other times simply making do with what was at hand (from oil paints to modern pigments).

This is not a “purist” restoration — not yet. It’s an experiment, a beginning. Our hope is to one day move towards natural pigments and traditional methods, but for now, this is our first step in giving fragile, beloved pieces another chance to be seen and enjoyed.

Each doll still carries its history of festivals and wear, but now with a little more strength and colour to keep the stories alive.

We’re officially opening our doors at Cherish. ✨

Our ancestral home in Sholavandan, 20 km from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, is where Cherish Vintage Finds truly comes alive. Estimated at 130–150 years old, our home is a rare example of South Indian domestic architecture still lived in today — with carved wooden doorframes, a Madras terrace roof, shaded verandas, and rooms filled with natural light.

It is within these walls that our collection takes on new meaning. Two rooms are dedicated to Cherish treasures, often spilling into the drawing hall and foyer — objects of brass, terracotta, wood, and clay sharing space with stories of family, festivals, and memory.

This is not a museum, nor a showroom — but a lived-in home where time has layered its patina. Here, you’re welcome to browse, linger over conversation, and share a cup of Amma’s filter coffee amidst 150 years of life and character.

🌿 We’ve quietly welcomed a few clients over high tea and meals, and now we are ready to open this space more widely.

Sometimes, dolls have their own journeys.

We found one of these Murugan dolls 2.5 years ago. Then, in a completely different state — 823 km apart — we stumbled upon its twin.

Not identical, each carrying its own quirks, but unmistakably connected and sharing the same mould and story. That’s the magic of collecting — pieces separated by time and distance sometimes find their way back together. 💛

In Tamil Nadu it’s called Golu/Kolu, in Andhra & Telangana it’s Bommala Koluvu, in Karnataka it’s Bombe Habba — different names, same joy of bringing dolls together each year.

We had an absolute blast at Jeevana School in Madurai with our "A for Antique" session! 🎉

From Class 3 to 8, students and teachers alike dove into the fascinating world of vintage, antiques, and collectibles with enthusiasm that warmed our hearts.

What Happened?

💡Interactive Exploration: Kids got hands-on with our curated collection, touching history and asking questions that showed their curiosity and intelligence.
💡Creative Storytelling: We shared stories behind each antique, sparking imaginations and connecting the past to the present.
💡Homework Highlights: Students proudly presented photos and stories of something old from their homes, creating a beautiful bridge between home and classroom learning.

We found this incredible antique postcard from the end of World War I in a San Diego market! 🌍✨

What makes this postcard extraordinary:
